Art in Architecture Projects
Since 2014, we have been developing and realizing artworks together for publicly funded art in architecture projects. This has resulted in a distinct body of work that transcends the collaborative style of the participating artists, synthesizing their individual approaches. Partially detached from our own formal preferences, we develop artworks with a timeless, playfully representative visual language. The unique characteristics of each building and site are artistically commented upon and highlighted to create a mutually reinforcing unity with the architecture.
Our focus is always on people and their relationship to the respective locations, as well as an interplay between architectural and human dimensions and scales. Different viewing distances—a bilateral reflection of proximity and distance—are often reflected in our artworks. Despite their often imposing size, our sculptures and installations appear ephemeral, engaging with the spaces with a multifaceted lightness. They enliven the space by referencing the people within it.
Our focus is always on people and their relationship to the respective locations, as well as an interplay between architectural and human dimensions and scales. Public art projects have become important to us because, firstly, they allow us to realize projects on a scale that far exceeds the financial and logistical scope of typical exhibitions. Secondly, unlike exhibitions in the art world, they also reach an audience not typically associated with art. Our works are intended to offer a direct, associative connection, to be physically tangible, intellectually stimulating, and ultimately enchanting.
We achieve this fascination through structures whose density is not immediately apparent. This is only possible because Walter Eul is also able to program software that generates a visual complexity beyond comprehension.
With public art, we aim to emphasize the unique character of a place and the collective individuality of the people who inhabit it.
